Crisis of Authority in the ELCA or in all of North American Lutheranism?
Interesting article from Christianity Today regarding the formation of the new Lutheran church body breaking away from the ELCA, the North American Lutheran Church. It sets forth an interesting critique of ELCA equating some of the things that have taken place there of late with Gnosticism. It is called “a safe haven for congregations that find the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America too liberal and the Missouri-Synod Lutheran Church too “fundamentalist” for their comfort.” Is it — church, the Gospel, the plan of redemption — about “you,” or is it about what Christ has done for you according to the hidden Will of God? Does that “safe haven” phrase bother anyone?
